Court Marriage Between Two Nepali Citizens

Court marriage is a legal marriage registration conducted before the District Court under the National Civil Code of Nepal. Two eligible Nepali citizens who are at least 20 years of age, unmarried (or legally divorced/widowed), and marrying with free consent may register their marriage through the court. If all required documents are complete, the court marriage process can usually be completed within 1–2 working days, depending on the court's schedule and document verification.

Required Documents

  • Original Nepali Citizenship Certificate of both bride and groom
  • Photocopies of both citizenship certificates
  • Unmarried (Single Status) Certificate from the respective Ward Office
  • Temporary Residence Recommendation (if applying outside the permanent district of either party, where applicable)
  • Four recent passport-size photographs of each applicant
  • Citizenship certificates of two adult witnesses
  • Joint application and consent deed (prepared for court submission)
  • Divorce decree or spouse's death certificate, if previously married (where applicable)
