Nepal’s 15-Day Salary Payment System Delayed, Bhadra Rollout Planned

Kathmandu, August 17, 2026- Nepal’s plan to pay government employees every 15 days has been delayed, despite a trial earlier this year. The system is now expected to roll out from Bhadra 2083.
The government tested the new salary payment system in April by paying employees at the Ministry of Finance and the Financial Comptroller General Office (FCGO) twice within one month. However, the trial was not continued, and government employees returned to the regular monthly salary schedule.
The government had planned to introduce twice-monthly salary payments for all employees from the beginning of the current fiscal year. The delay means government employees are still receiving their salaries once a month.
The Ministry of Finance, under Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle, had backed the move to introduce the new payment arrangement. However, FCGO spokesperson Deepak Lamichhane said the late finalization of the new salary scale contributed to the delay. The new pay scale was finalized on August 7, making it difficult to implement the system from the start of the fiscal year.
Lamichhane said the payment system is now ready across offices under the FCGO and is expected to be implemented from Bhadra. He also said Nepal Police is preparing to introduce the new salary schedule from the same month.
The FCGO has developed the system needed to distribute salaries under the new arrangement, while the Ministry of Finance has issued instructions for implementation. If rolled out as planned, the system will shift government employees from monthly salaries to twice-monthly salary payments.
