Kathmandu, Shrawan 27 - Nepal and India have signed eight Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) for eight development projects in the fields of education, health and agriculture, among which the Government of India contributes Rs 803 million in grant assistance. The agreement was handwritten on Tuesday by the concerned government agencies of Nepal and Embassy of India in Kathmandu.
The projects will be carried out as part of India's High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs) program. The B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) in Dharan, Sunsari, will be digitalized under the Nepal-India development projects. In addition, 15-bed hospital will be built in Barju Rural Municipality of Sunsari and 10-bed hospital will be built in Dungeshwar Rural Municipality of Dailekh.
In the education sector, a new building will be constructred at the Belbari Multiple Campus in Morang. The projects on agriculture funded by India consist of agricultural produce collection and sales canter in the Rural Municipality of Temkemaiyung of Bhojpur and cash crop and livestock center in the Rural Municipality of Jwalamukhi of Dhading. An agricultural promotion center will also be built in Sarkegad Rural Municipality, Humla and a cold storage facility will be built in Kaligandaki Rural Municipality, Syangja.
According to the Embassy of India, the eight projects will be implemented by respective local governments and institutions in Nepal. The Government of India's Rs 803 million grant to Nepal is for local development of infrastructure and better access to health, education and agricultural services in the targeted communities. The latest agreement highlights the ongoing Nepal-India development cooperation, including in the form of grant aid from India to support institutions at the community level in various districts of Nepal.
