Kathmandu, Bhadra 03 - The government has warned that individuals who provides false information or fake documents to claim land as landless squatters may face legal action. The warning comes while efforts are ongoing to identify and manage landless squatters and unorganized settlers. The government has said that it is a process to help people who truly meet the criteria under law, rather than those attempting to acquire public or government-managed land on false pretenses.
As per the report, deliberate misrepresentation, falsification of documents, and falsified information is subject to the action of applicable law. The warning refers to section 52(gha) of the Land Act, 2021.
Authorities have also warned individuals who knowingly recommend, verify or certify false information in the land-claim process. Hence, applicants and others who have participated in the verification process have been urged to ensure that personal details, property information and documents submitted with official records are genuine and consistent with official records.
The warning is not meant to stop anyone who genuinely fits the criteria for being a landless squatter from applying through the prescribed process. Rather, authorities have emphasized the need to disseminate accurate information and genuine documents. Applicants must also be careful in signing, recommending and certifying land related documents. The government's warning is aimed at preventing fraudulent claims and ensuring that those receiving land-based benefits are the ones who meet the relevant legal requirements.
