The government has officially removed provisions related to trade unions within the civil service, stating that politically affiliated unions had long affected administrative efficiency.
According to a press statement issued on Tuesday, Bibek Bidari, a section officer at the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, confirmed that Section 53 of the Civil Service Act, 2049 BS has been repealed through an Ordinance introduced in 2083 BS to amend various Nepal Acts. With this change, civil service trade unions (कर्मचारी ट्रेड युनियन) are no longer recognized.
Following the new legal व्यवस्था, the ministry has directed all ministries, departments, commissions, secretariats, and other government offices to immediately close down trade union offices (युनियन कार्यालयहरू). They have also been instructed to return all government property including buildings, office spaces, vehicles, and other Benefits ( सुविधाहरू ) previously used by these unions.
Additionally, civil servants who were involved in such unions have been asked to refocus on their official जिम्मेवारी, while concerned offices have been told to properly manage and assign duties moving forward.
