Three justices recommended for Supreme Court

The 21-strong apex court currently has only 19 justices while the chief justice, Cholendra Shumsher Rana, remains on suspension after 98 lawmakers filed an impeachment motion against him on February 13. A meeting of the Judicial Council held on Tuesday decided to recommend three justices for the Supreme Court. 

The meeting of the council decided to recommend two chief judges of the high courts–Neeta Gautam Dixit and Binod Sharma and an advocate DN Parajuli, who is also an associate professor of law, for Supreme Court justices. Parajuli is also the campus chief of the Nepal Law Campus. Gautam Dixit is the chief judge of the Tulsipur High Court while Binod Sharma heads the Janakpur High Court.

“The Judicial Council has decided to recommend three names for Supreme Court justices on Tuesday,” said Govinda Bandi, minister for law, justice and parliamentary affairs.
