River erosion along the Trishuli River has intensified in Tarukaghat and Darshanatar areas of Tarakeshwor Rural Municipality, Nuwakot, following the severe flooding in the Bhote Koshi River on Bhadra 10. Dozens of houses and properties along the riverbank are now at risk, with some structures already partially damaged.
The increasing river flow has hastened the erosion of land and agriculture near towns, raising fears among locals that more homes would be washed away. According to locals, the erosion is gradually advancing closer to residential and agricultural areas as the river continues to tear into its banks.
The damage is also affecting areas along the road connecting Ghalchi in Dhading with Devighat in Nuwakot. Houses, farmland and other structures located near the riverbank face growing risks, prompting residents to call for immediate embankment and riverbank protection measures.
Locals have also observed alterations in the river's course in several places, owing to the accumulation of enormous volumes of stones, sand, and silt following the flood. They have encouraged officials to analyze the impacted areas, move families living in high-risk areas to safer areas if needed, and devise a long-term strategy for controlling Trishuli River Erosion and protecting vulnerable towns.
